On Monday and Tuesday this week, the College again welcomed the facilitators from AdventureWorks WA to deliver the second of three ‘Into Adulthood’ workshops for 2023, which have been especially designed for our Year 9 students. The series of workshops in the programme support the development of quality relationships, self-awareness, engagement, increased personal responsibility and personal resilience of our students as they are invited ‘Into Adulthood’.
AdventureWorks facilitators joined with our Year 9 Pastoral Care Advisers to run each half-day workshop that focussed on values, revisiting the child-adult behaviour model and also examining what child-like things they would need to let go of as they step into adulthood. This was delivered in groups via a variety of activities, challenges, games and group discussions, all designed to help students build and strengthen connections with each other.
Students were also introduced to the concept of a ‘Rite of Passage Into Adulthood’. They explored how different cultures use these to transition their young people from being a child into being accepted and recognised as an adult. We embrace this concept at Chisholm and are thrilled to be with our Year 9 students on their journey into adulthood.
I would like to acknowledge and thank our Year 9 students for their impressive participation in their individual workshop sessions. Thank you also to our Year 9 PCAs and Camp PCAs for their involvement; Mr Alagic for his catering organisation and Mr Swindells for his support in helping to organise and facilitate the days.
Mr Dion Rendall
Head of Year 9
