Chisholm Catholic College embarked on yet another exciting literary journey during this year’s Book Week. Under the captivating theme of “Symphony of Stories” students and staff alike were drawn into a three-day celebration of books, creativity and the magic of storytelling. This year’s festivities provided students with an array of activities that ignited the imagination and fostered a deep appreciation for the written word.
The library buzzed with the sounds of the school’s brass band on Tuesday and the junior guitar ensemble who expertly played for the library crowds. Joining forces for the first time, the library and the music department came together to create a literary symphony.
The library was heaving with competition winners. Competitions included: Guess the book from the Lego image at the library front desk; Guess the book from a series of questions on SEQTA or listening to Mr Burgermeister read from our library dashboard; could you guess what book he read?
Our annual Book Week morning tea where students and teachers celebrate our top readers/borrowers was an utter success. Thank you to all who attended and to our winners for this year:
- Year 7: Jeevith
- Year 8: Rachael
- Year 9: Clem
- Year 10: Riley
- Year 11/12: Melodie
- And our overall winner: Jeevith (with an average of 18 books a week!)
To join in with the celebration, we had a host of literary characters this year led by the Library team who were a variety of Dr Seuss characters. Awards were handed out by Mister Clever and Little Miss Sunshine.
Book Week reminds us that regularly losing ourselves in a symphony of stories isn’t just a pleasant pastime, it’s a practice that plays in harmony with our wellbeing. Literacy skills, empathy, cognitive strength, even our health, all rise and fall in tune with the stories we choose to read. Each book adds its own melody: some quiet and reflective, others bold and stirring, but all part of the same grand composition.
The resounding message of Book Week 2026 was that the act of reading is a transformative experience that enriches our lives in ways both profound and diverse. Beyond the pages, beyond the narratives, lies a symphony of stories!
