On Wednesday 19 August, our Senior Boys Soccer team played their fourth group game in the ACC Divisional Championship against Mercy College.
Chisholm went into the game knowing that only a victory and three points would keep our campaign alive going into the final round next week.
Mercy College was to be our biggest test to date and the challenge of defeating a strong soccer academy team was going to require a strong performance from all the players.
Chisholm came out full of confidence and showed no signs of nerves playing some good, attacking football causing Mercy problems in defence. Austin made his debut in the Chisholm goals and looked confident and composed when Mercy challenged our goal.
As the first half grew to a close, Mercy found the breakthrough with a headed goal from a corner resulting in a 1-0 half-time lead.
Galvanised at half-time and quickly getting over the disappointment of conceding a goal, Chisholm attacked right from the start of the second half and Elijah scored the equalizer at the far post to make it 1-1.
Chisholm knew that a win was within their grasp and pushed hard for the second goal, whilst defending resolutely and giving Mercy few opportunities to score.
This whole team effort was finally rewarded in the last few minutes of the game when Joseph headed the ball home to seal a wonderful team performance and 2-1 victory.
We now move on to play Lake Joondalup Baptist College next week in what is effectively a quarter-final tie. Both teams are looking to secure a top two finish and a win will move Chisholm into the semi-finals.
