It is almost time to submit your Chisholm Care Diary! Please check your due date with your PCA. All diaries must be submitted by the end of this term.
But remember your diary is about more than just recording the hours you have completed. The reflection is one of the most important parts of your Chisholm Care experience.
Why is reflection important?
When you volunteer, you are giving your time to help others. Reflection gives you the opportunity to stop and think about what you have experienced and what you have learned along the way.
Ask yourself:
- What did I learn?
- Who did I help and how did my service make a difference?
- What surprised or challenged me?
- How did the experience make me feel?
- Did my experience change the way I think about others or my community?
- What will I remember from this experience?
Your reflection doesn’t need to be complicated. A few thoughtful sentences can show much more than simply writing, “I enjoyed volunteering.”
Think about a particular person you met, a moment that stood out, something that challenged you or something you discovered about yourself.
Service is more than the hours
The hours you complete are important but what you take away from your service is just as important. Chisholm Care is about developing compassion, empathy and a greater understanding of the people and communities around us.
Your reflection is your opportunity to show what your experience has taught you.
So, before you hand in your diary, take a few minutes to read through your reflections and ask yourself:
“What have I learned from serving others?”
Thank you to all our students who generously give their time to support others in our community. Your service makes a difference and your reflection helps you recognise just how much you have gained from the experience too.
