Congratulations to our Mock Trial team on an outstanding performance in Round 4 – Preliminary Finals of the 2026 Mock Trial competition, defeating Fremantle College 139 to 101 in a convincing 38-point victory.

This round involved a civil case concerning alleged misleading or deceptive conduct under the Australian Consumer Law. Chisholm represented Harper Studio Pty Ltd, which claimed it had been misled by the scientific and performance claims made by Somna Sphere about its NeuroCalm Pods, resulting in the purchase of a $660,000 corporate package. With advertising promising “science-led recovery” and “clinically backed” results, the case provided plenty of opportunity for our students to test their advocacy skills.

Our barristers, Eleni and Jayden, were outstanding throughout the trial. Both demonstrated confidence, precision in their questioning, with the presiding judge commenting that he “wouldn’t want to face either of them in a courtroom,” a fantastic compliment to their advocacy.

Our witnesses, Andrea and Hannah, also performed exceptionally well. Both knew their statements inside out, “never gave an inch” under cross-examination and delivered thorough examinations in chief without missing any important information. Solicitor Annika provided excellent support to the barristers throughout the trial, while Ethan, as Court Orderly, managed his role particularly well given the large number of exhibits involved in this case.

The contribution of our reserves, Ben, Emma and Alex, should also be recognised. All were heavily involved in team preparation and remained available throughout the trial process to support the team when needed.

While Ms Natasha Clark is currently on leave, her commitment to the team and the significant preparation she undertook in the lead-up to the competition have contributed greatly to this result. The strong foundations she established with the students throughout their preparation were evident in the confidence and quality of their performance on the night.

We thank Mr Jamie Gotti for stepping in to assist the team in Ms Clark’s absence and for continuing to support the students through the competition. We are also very fortunate to have the continued guidance of our Coach, Hon John McKechnie KC AO, whose experience and calm advice remain invaluable to the students.

This was an exceptional team performance and a fantastic reward for the students’ preparation, teamwork and determination. We are extremely proud of all involved and now wait to see if we have qualified for the semifinals.
