National Science Week 2026 bloomed at Chisholm last week, with the theme “Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All” reflected across a week of hands-on learning.

Year 7 students explored the Kingdom Gallery Walk, examining specimens and microscope slides from every kingdom of life and getting hands on practice classifying living things, while a live pond water stream revealed microscopic organisms in real time. Students got creative making seed bombs, made of seeds, clay and compost. Protecting the seeds from birds and insects until it rains, and the seeds start to sprout. This fun activity teaches students new ways to support local biodiversity and help restore habitats for native pollinators and wildlife.

This year’s theme was a great reminder that knowledge and a love of learning can grow with the right conditions, just like seeds! It was a wonderful celebration of curiosity and the diversity of living things, and a great reminder of why National Science Week is such a highlight on the school calendar.
