On Wednesday this week, another group of five Year 10 students spent three hours at the Wheelchairs For Kids warehouse to learn and volunteer. Below are their reflections on the experience:

“I think Wheelchairs For Kids is a such a great idea. Wheelchairs For Kids can give good insight into what happens at the warehouse on a day-to-day basis and how wheelchairs are created to help those in need. Wheelchairs have been transported to places around the world where people suffer from poverty and don’t have enough funds to afford a wheelchair. Wheelchairs For Kids is a good opportunity for people to learn new things, use new machinery and at the same time have a good and fun working experience as a volunteer.”

“I really enjoyed today helping everyone make parts for wheelchairs. I liked this because I was helping kids who can’t walk and this can make a difference by them having the ability to get off the ground and it could put a smile on their face. Overall, today was really fun and I would like to do it again. Everyone was so helpful.”

“We went to Wheelchairs For Kids, and we got to make parts to build wheelchairs for the children in need. I enjoyed it a lot because we built wheelchairs for children and got to talk to Brother Olly and the other volunteers. I enjoyed seeing what the workshop looks like and how we made a difference by helping today.”

“It really amazed me that the wheels and straps we were putting together will really help a child in need. It was so nice talking to all the elderly volunteers and finding out a lot about the organisation and how much it’s been expanded. I’m glad our school is helping.” – Angeline

“Today was very fun and enjoyable. It also meant a lot knowing that we were helping people in need. I loved that all the people there have such a kind and loving relationship and that they make you feel really safe and warm when we were there.” – Amelia
