The Year 10 Retreat Day provided students with a meaningful opportunity to pause, reflect and deepen their sense of identity and purpose through the theme “Called by Christ.” The day invited students to consider how they are uniquely created and how they are called to live with intention, faith and service.
One of the key sessions of the day was a reconnection with AdventureWorks WA, the organisation that supported students during their ‘Into Adulthood’ Programme in Year 9. This familiar partnership offered a valuable opportunity for students to revisit their personal growth over the past year. Through guided reflection, students considered how their attitudes, relationships and resilience have developed since their earlier experiences. A highlight of this session was the use of the “Wheel of Life” self-analysis tool, which enabled students to assess different aspects of their wellbeing and life balance, including relationships, goals, health and personal development. This reflective activity encouraged students to set meaningful goals for the future.
Students were also given the opportunity to write a heartfelt letter to their parents or guardians, expressing gratitude, sharing insights and acknowledging the support they have received in their journey. The session concluded with a peaceful walk around Riverside Gardens, providing time for informal conversation, reflection and connection with the natural environment.
The second major session was facilitated by the Youth Mission Team, who guided students in exploring their identity as individuals created in the image of God. Students were encouraged to recognise their inherent value and to find freedom from unhealthy societal pressures to conform. Through engaging discussion and reflection, students were invited to consider the many ways Christ is revealed – The Son of God, The Way, The Truth and the Life, Teacher, Lamb of God, Saviour, Messiah and the great “I Am”. These images offered rich insight into who Christ is and the ways He calls each person into relationship with Him.
Students also reflected on how growing in relationship with God can strengthen their capacity to love: self, others, creation and God. This message reinforced the importance of faith as a foundation for living a purposeful and compassionate life.
At the heart of the day was a Liturgy of the Word and Communion. During this sacred time, the community gathered in prayer, asking that Jesus reveal to each student their unique gifts and inspire them to use these gifts in service of others.
Overall, the Retreat Day was a rich and reflective experience, encouraging students to listen deeply to the call of Christ in their lives.
