FROM THE PRINCIPAL – Term 2 Week 3

May 8, 2026

Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Chisholm Catholic College,

“All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother.” (Abraham Lincoln)

I’d like to dedicate my report in this week’s Carolean to the mothers and maternal figures in our community, as we approach Mother’s Day this weekend. We recognise and honour mothers, grandmothers, carers and all those who take on a maternal role within our community.

It was wonderful to experience the Year 12 Mother’s Day afternoon for the first time yesterday afternoon, with such an amazing number of families represented. I thank Mr Glover, Mrs Iacusso and supporting staff and students and all of those extraordinary women who joined us for this special occasion.

Mother’s Day offers a meaningful moment for us all to pause and give thanks for the women, and for those we love and remember, who nurture, guide and sustain us each day.

In the Chisholm Catholic College context, we see daily the impact of this care. It is reflected in the resilience of our students, their willingness to strive and their capacity to show kindness and respect to others. These qualities are nurtured over time through love, encouragement and example.

At the heart of Mother’s Day are the Gospel values that underpin our faith and our work as a Catholic community. The love of a mother so often reflects the self-giving love of Christ – patient, compassionate and enduring. In the care shown within families, we see lived examples of service, humility, forgiveness and hope. These are the same values we seek to nurture in our students each day, encouraging them to act with dignity, to serve others generously and to recognise Christ in those around them.

A motherly relationship is impossible to replace. Our mothers are the most beautiful icon of God’s love and tenderness.
On behalf of our College, I extend sincere thanks to all mothers and maternal figures in our community. May you feel appreciated for all that you give, often in ways unseen. We hope this day brings you moments of joy, rest and the recognition you so richly deserve.

“Love is patient, love is kind… It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” (1 Corinthians 13: 4, 7)

God bless.
