This year’s Reconciliation Week is once again a time for the College’s staff and students to embrace the opportunity to learn and share the history and culture of Australian traditional owners in order to grow and move forward together.

The Aboriginal Education Team created various activities for teaching staff to incorporate into this week’s curriculum. Our Senior students researched and presented Aboriginal stories to their PCG while our Junior students watched informative videos or enjoyed other activities such as colouring in Aboriginal artworks, word search, Reconciliation Cube activity and a Reconciliation Hands activity.  

Mr Bussanich and his Community Relations Committee put together an excellent video that included interviews with staff and students talking about Reconciliation and what it means to them. A couple of the questions asked were ‘Why do you think it is important for people to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples?’ and ‘What does this year’s theme “Be Brave. Make Change.” mean to you?’ The questions created a great space for everyone to start conversations and to reflect on the sad history of Australian Indigenous peoples. Staff were treated to home baked damper with cream and jam during recess.

Chisholm is passionate about making positive changes and being inclusive when it comes to reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, which is reflected through the College’s Values Character, Learning and Compassion. This is how we are Being Brave and Making Change, not only during but also beyond Reconciliation Week.
